The aim is to empower parents to move from simply surviving family life to being proactive in leading families that are not only strong in themselves but also seek to make a difference in the communities in which they live.

Description

This is a 6-week course, each session lasting 2 hours. The course includes the changing roles of parent and teenager; problem-solving; values negotiation; listening skills; handling conflict; boundaries and power. We will also look at teenage involvement is risk-taking, sex, drugs and alcohol, internet misuse, problems in school, and peer-group relationships.
 
Fee £120 per person (£40 low income)

Description

Surrey residents can access free online parenting guides, the guides include helpful tips from childcare, education and NHS health experts. The key topics are:

• Understanding your pregnancy
• Understanding your baby
• Understanding your child
• Understanding your teenager
• Understanding your child with additional needs

The online guides contain advice relevant to expectant parents, parents, grandparents and carers of children of all ages including those with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).

Access to the guides is unlimited with no expiry date, so you can return as and when you need and want to. Each guide has between 9 and 11 sessions, which last roughly 20 minutes each. There are also activities that can be carried out between courses.

Parenting teenagers can be stressful and challenging. This course will tackle some of these challenges and help you understand your teenager better so you can have a calmer, happier family life.

- being a parent of a teenager
- what is going on for a teenager
- communication
- managing conflict
